Renowned author's tribute to Rosebery's town and school: The Mercury reports

Acclaimed Tasmanian author, Richard Flanagan, paid tribute to his old stomping ground, Rosebery, and the school that taught him to read and write at an event celebrating his 2014 Man Booker prize.

“When I won the Booker in London I said I didn’t come out of a literary tradition but rather a road leading of a small mining town set in a rainforest at the edge of the world, and that town was of course Rosebery,” Mr Flanagan said at Parliament House yesterday.

“There was in the place wisdom and madness and despair and love and more besides,” he said.
